I'm not sure how much I enjoyed the Olympics this year. I had hoped to see more Track & Field and Men's Basketball. The "Redeem Team" pulled it out, but I really wanted to see them play. Getting up at 2:30am is not of God and besides there is no way I could have stayed awake. It seemed like it was either girls' gymnastics or men diving in toddler speedos.
One thing that got me thinking was the new standard for judging gymnastics. One set of judges assesses the level of difficulty and the second set of judges the actual execution. In one event, the gold medalist actually fell and the silver medalist went out of bounds. But, because of the starting level of difficulty there was room for execution error.
The Bible says that those in the faith "are overcomers." We have won the gold. Trying to attain perfection outside of Christ is impossible. God, knowing that our level of difficulty was so high, sent His son to "stick the landing" and "stay in bounds." There is nothing we could do to achieve perfection. We were made perfect when we believed by faith. The judgement has been made, and we have been declared the winner.
That is the confidence that we get to have now that we are in Christ. As fathers, mothers, employers and employees, we can make mistakes...BIG ONE'S...and still come out on top. While our execution may stink the place up sometimes, don't forget that we are all "10's" in the eyes of God. Press On!
That is the sufficiency of His grace.
